Did anyone watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
I recently watched the new one for nostalgia, and it was fascinating to see how much trauma-informed language they wove into the script—one of the actors even mentioned it explicitly. Adult Lydia Deetz was portrayed as very anxious, and I couldn’t tell if that was Winona Ryder’s personal energy or if they intended for Lydia to be this way as an adult. The film also touched heavily on generational and childhood trauma, which gave it much more depth compared to the original Beetlejuice.
When I was younger, I really resonated with Lydia’s character, as many of us did. Now, whenever I do inner child work, I always remind younger Riana to embrace her strangeness, her weirdness, and her shadow self—because that’s what truly makes her, her.
Speaking of embracing the shadow self, in this episode I talk about the themes that have been coming up with my clients and myself: integrity, imposter syndrome, and effort. I get vulnerable and share what I've been growing through. One of my favorite rituals that I've been coming back to is doing ritual work while I make my coffee. Years ago I had asked my friend CJ to create a mug for me. She surprised me last week and told me she had finally made a mug that she liked. That mug brought back the spark for me to come back to my coffee ritual.
I’m not suggesting you need to buy something new, but there's something about inviting fresh energy into your routines. It can be as practical as clearing out old mugs you no longer use or switching up your morning drink, like swapping coffee for matcha. And sometimes, it’s more profound, like reprogramming the stories you tell yourself or signing up for a group breathwork session (hehe). You get to decide how much effort you want to put.
You are worth the effort.
Wednesday October 2nd is my next online group breathwork and energy healing container. Please note that this session will be recorded, but only my face and voice will be captured. No participant video or audio will be included in the recording. If you can't make the live session, you can still book your spot to receive the replay which is timeless.
My fall kit needs to include a playlist which is available on both Spotify and Apple Music. So happy to be curating playlists again. This one is a lot more…emo haha. Expect lots of indie, deep contemplative music. Play this while going on a drive, sitting in the bathtub, or journaling.
It's that time again…
I can't believe it's been over a year since my last Reiki training. Here are my offerings for the fall. Both trainings + mini retreats are in-person. If you're even a little bit curious about this training, click the button to find out more info.
Wherever you are in your healing journey – whether you are just starting or have been doing the work, I will meet you where you are at. When I discovered Reiki, I was burnout and tired and felt the need to change. It became a catalyst for me and has evolved into something so much more than I expected. I never thought that I would be one day teaching this modality.
Hope this helps. Take what you need.
As always, thank you for being in ebb and flow with me.
x Riana
